About the Author

Meet Joey Galligan

I once lived in the shadows of my own choices, wandering through addiction, broken relationships, and a silence that felt endless. But in the valley, I met grace.

Denton Freedom House didn’t just offer me a place to stay. They introduced me to the living Christ, the One who didn’t flinch at my wounds but healed them.

Through discipleship, community, and the relentless truth of scripture, I found not just sobriety, but purpose. Today, I serve as Phase Two Director, walking with others through their own valleys, helping them discover the same hope that saved me. My ministry is hands-on, heart-first, and rooted in the belief that every meal can be a metaphor, every poem a prayer, and every broken story a chance for resurrection.

Project Hope is my offering. 100 Days of Hope in the Valley: A Journey Through Pain and Peace was written for those who are still searching, still struggling, still waiting to hear that they are loved, seen, and called.

I am living proof that the Word still speaks, and that freedom is not a concept. It’s a Person. And that Person is Jesus Christ.

The Book

This book was born in the valley.

Not the kind you visit, but the kind you survive. The kind that breaks you open and teaches you how to breathe again.

Project Hope began as a whisper in the dark: a prayer scribbled in the margins of recovery, a poem offered in trembling faith. What started as fragments of honesty slowly became a path, one step, one scripture, one breath at a time.

Hope doesn't always arrive like thunder. Sometimes it comes as a whisper in the dark, right when you've stopped expecting an answer. 100 Days of Hope in the Valley was born in the place most of us try to avoid: the valley of addiction, broken relationships, shame, and silence. These pages don't offer tidy answers. They offer honest company.

Each poem is a step forward. Each scripture is a light in the haze. Each reflection is a gentle hand on your shoulder saying, "I am here. You are not alone."

This offering is not polished. It's poured out. It's not perfect. It's present. It's for the one still walking, still weeping, still hoping. My prayer is that these pages become a companion in your valley, a reminder that even here, God is near, and that He is faithful to restore.

With gratitude and grace, Joey GalliganPhase Two Director, Denton Freedom House

What Is Project Hope?

Where honesty, scripture, and beauty meet

Project Hope is a collection of poetic devotionals shaped for the valleys of life. Each entry begins with a scripture, then a free-verse poem that names the season, followed by a reflection that helps you recognize where you are and how God is moving.

Rooted in testimony and anchored in the Word, Project Hope invites readers into slow, spacious encounters with Jesus: moments where truth is felt as deeply as it is understood. Through prayer prompts, hope actions, and space to track God's faithfulness, it becomes a companion for anyone learning to walk with purpose, clarity, and courage in their spiritual season.

  • Restores visionSee your season, and God in it, clearly.
  • Rebuilds identityHear the name He speaks over you.
  • Awakens hopeTake the next step, one day at a time.

It is not just a book to read, but a journey to enter.

Today's Prayer

Project Hope Daily Prayer

Lord,

Quiet every voice that does not come from You.

Teach me to recognize Your tone: steady, gentle, full of truth and mercy.

Let Your words be the ones that shape my identity, my choices, and my future.

Call my name again in a way that restores what shame tried to steal.

Help me trust the name You speak over me more than the lies I’ve believed.

Draw me into the story You’re writing and give me courage to walk in who You say I am.

Amen.

The Sound Beneath Silence

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans."

Romans 8:26 (NIV)

I prayed
not with eloquence,
but with the weight of everything
I couldn’t say.

My words
were fragments—
half-formed,
half-felt,
barely brave enough
to rise.

I knelt
in the hush between heartbeats,
where the Spirit speaks
in syllables
too deep for language.

There,
in the quiet,
my soul stretched out
like hands in the dark
reaching for the hem
of something holy.

And He met me—
not with answers,
but with presence.
Not with solutions,
but with stillness
that held me
like a whispered name.

Prayer became
less about asking
and more about abiding.
Less about changing things
and more about being changed.

Reflection prompts

  1. When have I felt the Spirit speak “in syllables too deep for language”?Reflect on moments when words failed but God’s presence was unmistakable: through tears, silence, or surrender.
  2. How has prayer shifted from asking to abiding in my life?Consider how your understanding of prayer has evolved. What does it mean to simply be with God?
  3. What does it look like to be changed by stillness rather than solutions?Think about how God has used quiet moments to reshape your heart, rather than just resolve your circumstances.
